Faust - IV
Faust - IVIn the Seventies the cutting edge of experimental music was firmly situated in Germany and if you really feel the need for evidence of this you’ll find it squarely on Faust IV. Of course for many the word ‘experimental’ will automatically mean ‘virtually meaningless pretentious noise’ or ‘turn that bloody racket off for Christ’s sake’ but not so with this record. Melodies abound on each track, just not very obvious ones. There are some vocals, sang in English, which are perfectly easy to sing to yourself whilst doing the dishes. And by the time you reach the end you’ll swear you’ve just heard the future of rock music being performed thirty years ago. By Germans. Forget quality sausage making, sun-lounger territorialism, centralised banking for Europe and the sad bombing of Stan Boardman’s local Liverpudlian chip shop. And Welcome To Krautrock.
