Songs Made From Plastic is Mon Electric Bijou's debut album
and as you may have guessed being an indie rock
record its full of jangly and distorted guitars.
Think Gram Parsons with a less wavering voice
combined with a bluesy / Lou Reed-esque / less
rockin’ Pixies-esque sound. The tunes are melodic
and the riffs and solos are catchy in an unusual
way. I have to admit, the more I listen to it the
more I like it. However, one thing that does ruin
the experience a bit is the production; it sounds as if it was recorded
on a 4-track in a big
empty hall.
On one of the tracks (track 6, I think) Mr Saz
sings "I’ve never been able to set the world
on fire" and in that one line he pretty much
sums up this record. A good, honest little record
in all but not earth shattering. If Mr Saz was back
in school I would give him a big red tick with "Good Effort", but he wouldn’t get
any of my stickers!
